Critical Thinking

The word critical stems from the Greek root kritikos, which means “the ability to discern or judge.” That definition points directly to the critical thinking necessary for making decisions and taking action. Such thinking is focused and purposeful. It evaluates ideas using criteria, another word from the same Greek root. It faces down crises (decision points) and makes tough choices. Critical thinking is pointed and practical—focused, rational, and dispassionate.

This chapter will help you sharpen your critical-thinking skills, reaching to ever deeper levels of thought.
