Where can I see PBL in action?

PBL in Action

You can see exemplary project-based learning in many classrooms and sometimes whole schools. You'll also find many nonprofit organizations that train teachers to be great PBL teachers. Be sure the check out the following leaders in project-based learning.

  • The Duke School, established in 1984 as an independent nonprofit school, focuses on project-based learning from preschool through eighth grade.
  • The Buck Institute for Education (BIE) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1987 to improve 21st century learning by promoting (PBL).
  • Edutopia, established in 1991 by the George Lucas Foundation, provides numerous articles in support of project-based learning.
  • The New Tech Network was founded in 1996 to help high schools change to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
  • High Tech High School began in 2000 as a single-campus PBL school and now spans a K-12 program in multiple sites in San Diego.
  • The North Carolina New Schools Project began in 2003 with a state grant and support from the Gates Foundation. It has since developed over 100 innovative high schools.
