Collaborating

Working with others goes beyond communication. You need to connect with others, develop trust, conduct meetings, brainstorm ideas, set common goals, plan work, make decisions, delegate duties, cooperate, resolve conflicts, and present your work. These abilities are key to your success in school, in the workplace, and in life. In this photo, students work together on a book drive for children in Ghana.

Your Turn Write down a big problem in your school or community. Perhaps the school is facing budget cuts, or some students are getting bullied, or the community has a lot of homeless people. These problems may feel too big for you to solve on your own, but what would happen if you worked with others? List people you could work with. Then write a paragraph reflecting on ways that you could collaborate to solve the problem you identified.
